David Bailey Aerospace ConsultingPrior to establishing Aerospace Consulting, Dr David W. Bailey FRAeS was Chief Executive of the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA), the regional trade association for the aerospace and defence industry in the North West of England. The North West Aerospace Alliance is one of the largest aerospace clusters in the world representing over 240 aerospace member companies (including organisations such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Kaman, MBDA Missile Systems, Rolls-Royce, Safran, Senior Aerospace and Teledyne CML Composites) with a combined turnover in excess of £8 Billion and employing 26,000 highly skilled people across the North West of England.

David was responsible for the design, development and delivery of over £30 Million of technology and supply chain development programmes (supported by Airbus, Boeing, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce and Safran) which have been instrumental in supporting aerospace suppliers to improve their competitiveness and win new work.

David has delivered supply chain improvement programmes internationally working in the Boeing and Bombardier supply chain in Canada and has supported supply chain development in both Mexico and India and understands the global competition.

David was appointed to the Board of the Aerospace Growth Partnership in 2015 (chaired by Colin Smith OBE, President of Rolls Royce) to represent over 2,000 companies in the UK Aerospace Supply Chain and continues to contribute to the development and delivery of the UK’s Aerospace Strategy. David has input to the UK’s Supply Chain Strategy and is currently working with the national trade associations for the Aerospace and Automotive Sectors to deliver the new National Manufacturing Competitiveness Levels (NMCL) programme.

David has gained over 30 years of experience since starting as an apprentice with AIRBUS at the Broughton Site in 1986 focused on wing manufacture. His career comprises over 10 years in gas turbine engine design and technology management with ALSTOM Power where he designed compressors, turbines and combustion systems for both industrial gas turbines and aero-engines. As Head of Technology, he led ALSTOM’s Future Technology and European R&T Portfolios across a 5-year period. He completed his PhD in Gas Turbine Aerodynamics in the Rolls Royce Technology Centre at Loughborough University.

David was made a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society for services to the North West’s Aerospace Industry in 2017.
